What comes to mind when you think about Native Americans? If you're currently thinking about cliché-riddled men in feathers dancing around a campfire or silently standing behind problematic white Hollywood actors, you might want to consider picking up a copy of this book.
I'll admit, I'm a rather emotional person. But if a book is so impactful in its storytelling that I repeatedly have to put it down just to regain my composure, then that is quite remarkable-even for my standards.

"The Extinction of Irena Rey" is a well-crafted, witty book filled with fascinating titbits and one of my favourite novels of 2024.
This book is nearly 400 pages long and I finished it in just under 2 weeks. I’m not a fast reader at all, so this should already give you a fairly good idea of how enthralled I was by its story.
The first thing that stood out to me about "Love at Six Thousand Degrees" by Japanese author Maki Kashimada was that there are no breaks in the story.
One of my favourite experiences is starting a new book and feeling lukewarm about it, only to be left utterly impressed by its story by the end. And this is exactly what happened with "Black Foam" by Eritrean author Haji Jabir.
I must admit that I'm slightly struggling to write this review. There is a feeling that no matter what I say, it'll be hopelessly inadequate compared to the actual content in this book.
Not every book wants to be read the same way. It's one of the skills a reader develops over time – to feel how a story wants to be interacted with.
Short stories are perhaps among the most accessible forms of literature. They're concise by nature and offer readers the unique chance to dive into a snippet of a universe.
